Evaporative Emission Control Canister: Service and Repair
Evaporative Emission Canister Replacement
Removal Procedure
Note: A service replacement evaporative emission (EVAP) canister will come with a EVAP canister filter, but will NOT come with a EVAP canister vent solenoid valve. The valve will have to be transferred from the old canister.
1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Description and Operation).
2. Disconnect the chassis EVAP pipe quick connect fitting (1) from the EVAP canister. Refer to Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service (Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service).
3. Disconnect the fuel tank vapor line quick connect fitting (3) from the EVAP canister. Refer to Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service (Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service).
4. Disconnect the fuel fill pipe vent line quick connect fitting (2) from the EVAP canister. Refer to Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service (Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service).
5. Remove the EVAP canister nuts.
6. Lower the EVAP canister until the EVAP canister vent solenoid valve electrical connector can be disconnected.
7. Disconnect the rear body harness electrical connector from the EVAP canister vent solenoid.
8. Remove the EVAP canister.
9. Place the EVAP canister on a suitable work surface.
10. Rotate the EVAP canister vent solenoid valve counterclockwise.
11. Remove the EVAP canister vent solenoid valve.
Installation Procedure
1. Install the EVAP canister vent solenoid valve to the new canister.
2. Rotate the EVAP canister vent solenoid valve clockwise until the solenoid valve comes to a stop in the retainer.
3. Place the EVAP canister near the underbody.
4. Connect the rear body harness electrical connector to the EVAP canister vent solenoid.
5. Install the EVAP canister onto the studs.
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).
6. Install the EVAP canister nuts.
Tighten the nuts to 6 Nm (53 lb in).
7. Connect the fuel fill pipe vent line quick connect fitting (2) to the EVAP canister. Refer to Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service (Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service).
8. Connect the fuel tank vapor line quick connect fitting (3) to the EVAP canister. Refer to Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service (Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service).
9. Connect the chassis EVAP pipe quick connect fitting (1) to the EVAP canister. Refer to Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service (Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service).
10. Lower the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Description and Operation).
