DTC Descriptor
DTC B2610 02
- Passenger Compartment Dimming 1 Circuit Short to Ground

Diagnostic Fault Information

Circuit/System Description

The body control module (BCM) supplies a reference voltage to the backlight dimmer switch, which is part of the headlamp switch. When the backlight dimmer switch is placed in a desired brightness position, reference voltage is applied through the backlight dimmer switch resistor ladder to the BCM. The BCM interprets this voltage signal, then applies a pulse width modulated (PWM) voltage to the LED dimming supply circuit to all related interior lamps, illuminating them to the desired level of brightness.

* Dome/reading lamps
* Sunroof switch
* Sunroof sunshade switch
* Outside rearview mirror switch
* Window switches
* Headlamp switch
* Park brake control switch
* Head-up display switch
* Ignition mode switch
* Multifunction switch 1 - instrument panel
* Multifunction switch 2 - instrument panel
* Steering wheel controls switches
* Garage door opener

Conditions for Running the DTC

* The ignition is ON.
* The headlamps or park lamps ON.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

The BCM detects a short to ground on the LED backlight lamp control circuit.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

The LED backlighting will be inoperative.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

* The condition responsible for setting the DTC no longer exists.
* A history DTC will clear after 100 consecutive fault-free ignition cycles have occurred.

Circuit/System Verification

Ignition ON, command the LED Backlight Dimming ON and OFF with a scan tool. The LED backlights should turn ON and OFF when changing between the commanded states.

Circuit/System Testing

Note: Each LED backlight may need to be disconnected to isolate the short to ground. Use the schematic to identify the following:

* All LED backlight equipped with the vehicle
* Component locations on the LED backlight control circuit
* Each component's control circuit terminals

1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at appropriate backlighting component.
2. Test for less than 10 ohm between the ground circuit terminal and ground.

If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.

3. Connect a test lamp between the control circuit and ground
4. Command the LED Backlight Dimming ON and OFF with a scan tool. The test lamp should turn ON and OFF when changing between the commanded states.

If the test lamp is always OFF, test the control circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K9 BCM.

If the test lamp is always ON, test the control circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K9 BCM.

5. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the backlighting component.
