Diagnostic Fault Information

Circuit/System Description

The radio receives display dimming level information from the BCM via serial data. The radio supplies a pulse width modulated signal to the information display to control the display dimming level.

Conditions for Running the DTC

* Ignition ON.

* Radio ON.

* Exterior lighting ON.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

The radio detects a short to ground, short to voltage or an open on the display dimming control circuit.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

The radio sets the DTC and continues to output the desired dimming level signal.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

* The condition responsible for setting the DTC no longer exists.

* A history DTC will clear once 100 consecutive malfunction ignition cycles have occurred.

Circuit/System Verification

Ignition ON, Radio ON, exterior lights ON, vary the interior lamp dimming switch from dim to bright. The navigation display brightness should vary from dim to bright.

Circuit/System Testing

1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the X1 harness connector at the P17 info display module.

2. Test for less than 10 ohms between the ground circuit terminal 2 and ground.

If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.

3. Verify that a test lamp illuminates between the B+ circuit terminal 1 and ground.

If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the B+ circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance.

4. Ignition ON, radio ON, verify a test lamp illuminates between the remote enable signal circuit terminal 6 and ground.

If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the remote enable signal circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the A11 radio.

5. Lights ON, set the dimming switch to full bright. Test for 1-1.5 V on the display dimming control circuit terminal 3.

If less than the specified value, test the control circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the A11 radio.

If greater than the specified value, test the control circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the A11 radio.

6. Use the dimming switch to decrease the dimming level to full dim. Verify the voltage increases steadily to 6-7 V at full dim.

If less than the specified value, test the control circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the A11 radio.

If greater than the specified value, test the control circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the A11 radio.

7. If all circuits test normal, replace the P17 info display module.
