Oil Filter: Service and Repair




Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement

Removal Procedure

Special Tools

EN-44887 - Oil Filter Wrench

For equivalent regional tools, refer to Special Tools (LDK, LHU) Special Tools (LDK, LHU).

1. Remove the intake manifold cover. Refer to Intake Manifold Cover Replacement Intake Manifold Cover Replacement.





2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle Service and Repair.

3. Place a drain pan under the oil drain plug.

4. Remove the oil pan drain plug.

5. Allow the oil to drain completely.

Caution:
Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.

6. Install the oil pan drain plug and tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb ft).

7. Lower the vehicle.





Note:
DO NOT use an open end wrench on the hex on top of the oil filter cap.

8. Use EN-44887 - wrench to remove the oil filter cap (1).

9. Remove the oil filter (2) from the cap and discard.

10. Clean the oil filter housing in the engine block.

Installation Procedure





1. Install a new oil filter (2) on the oil filter cap (1).

2. Lubricate the oil filter cap O-ring with engine oil.

Caution:
Over torquing the oil filter cap may cause damage to the oil filter cap resulting in an oil leak.

Note:
DO NOT use an open end wrench on the hex on top of the oil filter cap.

3. Use the EN-44887 - wrench to install the oil filter and cap. Tighten the oil filter cap until fully seated. DO NOT exceed 22 Nm (16 lb ft).

4. Fill the engine with oil. Refer to Fluid and Lubricant Recommendations [1][2]Fluid Type Specifications.

5. Install the intake manifold cover. Refer to Intake Manifold Cover Replacement Intake Manifold Cover Replacement.
