Battery Positive and Negative Cable Replacement (LDK or LHU)

Removal Procedure





1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.

2. Open the battery fuse block cover (1).

3. Remove the battery positive nut (2) from battery fuse block and detach the retainers from the battery tray.





4. Remove the battery negative nut (1) and terminal (2) from the left front frame rail.





5. Remove the nut (1) from the starter solenoid.

6. Remove the battery negative ground nut (2) from the starter mounting stud.

7. Remove the battery positive and negative cable retainer (3) from the bracket.





8. Remove the generator protective cap (1) and the nut (2) from behind the generator.

9. Remove the battery positive cable terminal (3) from the B+ stud.

10. Remove the battery positive cable retainer from the oil indicator tube bracket.

11. Remove the battery positive and negative cable from the vehicle.

Note:
Observe how the battery positive and negative cable was routed within the engine compartment.

12. Remove the battery positive and negative cable.

Installation Procedure





1. Install the retainer that holds the battery positive cable to the oil level indicator tube bracket.

Caution:
Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.

2. Install battery positive cable terminal (3) to the B+ generator stud and tighten nut to 12 Nm (9 lb ft)





3. Install the negative battery cable ground terminal to the starter mounting stud and tighten the nut (2) to 22 Nm (16 lb ft).

4. Install the battery positive cable terminal and nut (1) to the starter solenoid and tighten to 12 Nm (9 lb ft).

5. Install the battery positive and negative retainer (3) to the bracket.





6. Install the battery negative cable terminal (2) to the frame rail stud and tighten the nut (1) to 25 Nm (18 lb ft).





7. Install the positive battery cable terminal and nut (2) to the battery fuse block. Tighten to 12 Nm (106 lb in).

8. Close the battery fuse block cover (1) and install the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.
