Campaign - Radio Reprogram
SERVICE UPDATEBulletin No.: 12001
Date: January 11, 2012
Subject: ---12001 Service Update for Inventory and Customer Vehicles Radio Reprogram Expires with Base Warranty
Models:
2012 Buick Verano
This service update includes vehicles in dealer inventory and customer vehicles that return to the dealership for any reason. This bulletin will expire at the end of the involved vehicle's New Vehicle Limited Warranty period.
Purpose
This bulletin provides a service procedure to reprogram the radio on certain 2012 model year Buick Verano vehicles. This new software will prevent the radio from displaying a blank screen or partial icons.
This service procedure should be completed as soon as possible on involved vehicles currently in dealer inventory and customer vehicles that return to the dealer for any type of service during the New Vehicle Limited Warranty coverage period.
Vehicles Involved
All involved vehicles are identified by VIN in the Global Warranty Management System - Investigate Vehicle History (GMVIS2) Application. Dealership technicians should always check this site to confirm vehicle involvement prior to beginning any required inspections and/or repairs. It is important to routinely use this tool to verify eligibility because not all similar vehicles may be involved regardless of description or option content.
Additionally, a list of involved vehicles currently in dealer inventory is available on the "Service Update Bulletin Information" link under the "Service" tab in GM GlobalConnect (US) or attached to the GlobalConnect message (Canada) used to release this bulletin. Customer vehicles that return for service, for any reason, and are still covered under the vehicle's base warranty should also be checked for vehicle eligibility.
Part Information
The USB flash drive required to complete repairs will be preshipped to involved dealers of record at no-charge. This preshipment is scheduled to begin January 11, 2012, via UPS-Next Day Delivery. In the event of a dealer-trade, please complete the Part Request Form (found at the back of this bulletin) and fax it to Jeannette Dunn at 248-371-0192. Note: Only one flash drive will be shipped to involved dealers and should be used on all involved vehicles.
Service Procedure
A pre-loaded USB jump drive is required to perform this service procedure to update the radio software. A USB drive to cover this service action was shipped to dealers with involved vehicles. Each drive may be used to reprogram multiple radios so only one drive is necessary regardless of the number of vehicles requiring this procedure. Retain this drive after use.
Note
Picture below is a generic example of the "USB Drive" that will be shipped. Actual appearance may vary.
Caution
Each step in this procedure must be followed exactly. Interrupting the programming event by turning off the key, removing the USB drive or allowing the battery voltage to drop below 12 volts may cause the radio to become inoperative. If inoperative, the radio may have to be replaced.
1. Open the hood.
2. Connect the Midtronics(R) PSC 550 Battery Maintainer (SPS Programming Support Tool EL-49642) or an equivalent to the battery.
Caution
During programming, the battery voltage MUST be maintained within the proper range of 12-15 volts.
3. Turn the vehicle key to the ON position. (If battery charging is not available, due to the location of the vehicle, the engine may be started and run during this procedure).
4. Turn the radio ON.
5. Insert the Jump Drive into the vehicle USB port (located inside the front floor console storage area). The radio will return a "No Files Found" message. Press OK.
6. Press the on-screen HOME button.

10. Scroll Down and press Software Versions Menu.

12. Press Start Software Update.
Warning
Once the programming event begins DO NOT turn off the vehicle or remove the USB drive. Interrupting the reprogramming may cause the radio to become inoperative. If inoperative, the radio may have to be replaced.
13. Press Continue.
14. The programming will download to the radio and the bar graph should fill in a matter of seconds.
Note
You MAY see a screen appear indicating the radio can be restarted by pressing "OK". This screen will automatically disappear in about 10 seconds, and change to the blank screen shown below. No user input is required.
Warning
The blank screen below WILL remain for up to 15 minutes in some cases, and is a normal condition. DO NOT interrupt the programming. Interrupting the programming may cause the radio to become inoperative. If inoperative, the radio may have to be replaced.
15. The screen will go blank for up to 15 minutes.
16. When the radio is finished you will see the Buick logo as if the radio has been turned on, or the vehicle started.
17. Confirm the programming was successful by performing the following steps.
18. Press the Home Key.
19. Press More.
20. Press Config.

Dealer Program Responsibility
Whenever a vehicle subject to this service update enters your vehicle inventory, or is in your facility for service in the future, and the vehicle is still covered under the New Vehicle Limited Warranty, you must take the steps necessary to be sure the service update correction has been made before selling or releasing the vehicle.
IMPORTANT NOTE WHEN PRINTING THIS FORM: If the form prints out on two pages, make certain you fax both pages so the WPC receives the needed information. Missing information will delay or prevent the part from being shipped.
