Steering Wheel Mass Damper Replacement

Removal Procedure

Caution: When performing service on or around the SIR components or the SM wiring, follow the procedures listed below in order to temporarily disable the SIR system. Failure to follow the procedures could result in the following:
- Air bag deployment
- Personal injury
- Otherwise unneeded SIR system repairs





1. Disable the SIR system.
2. Remove the inflator module.
3. Remove the screws (1) retaining the mass damper to the steering wheel.
4. Remove the mass damper (a) from the steering wheel (3).

Installation Procedure





1. Install the mass damper (2) to the steering wheel.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

2. Install the screws (1) retaining the mass damper to the steering wheel.
- Tighten the mass damper mounting screws to 3 Nm (25 inch lbs.).
3. Install the inflator module.
4. Enable the SIR system.
