Stowage Box Lid Strap Breaking (Install Strap Kit)

Models:
2002-2004 Cadillac Escalade EXT
2002-2004 Chevrolet Avalanche

Condition

Some customers may comment that the strap on the lid for the stowage box is broken.

Cause

The metal strap may be pulling out of the eyelet.

Correction

Replace the strap.

1. Open the stowage compartment lid.





2. With a die grinder, grind the rivet head off on the bracket side as shown in the illustration above.





3. Use vice grips to remove the rivet from the hinge as shown in the illustration above.

4. It may be necessary to touch the hinge up with touch-up paint.

5. Install the new strap with the nuts and bolts that come in the kit and secure the strap. Make sure the strap can still rotate when closing the lid.
