Condition

Some customers may comment that the outside air temperature reading on the rearview mirror is too high.

Cause

The ambient air temperature sensor may be too close to the transmission auxiliary cooler.

Correction

Relocate the ambient air temperature sensor.

1. Remove the grille.

2. Remove the ambient air temperature sensor from its location.

Note:
Take precaution when drilling, not to hit the condenser. Place a piece of wood behind the bracket or wrap tape around the drill bit 13 mm (1/2 in) from the tip of the bit.

3. Drill a 27/64 or 11 mm hole into the front end radiator support brace between the hood latch assembly and the grille mounting tab as seen in illustration above.

4. Remove the wire harness from the electrical connector using the pick tool, P/N 12094429, from the Delphi Packard Electric System.

5. Cut the terminals off and splice 206 mm (8 in) of wire to the harness.

6. Install the connector with new terminal and seals.

7. Install a piece of conduit on the new harness.

8. Install the connector to the sensor and install the sensor from the back side of the brace.

9. Install conduit on the added wire harness and use two tie straps to fasten the harness to the side of the front end radiator support brace as seen in illustration above.

10. Install the grille.
