Scan Tool Data Definitions Part 1
SCAN TOOL DATA DEFINITIONSThe Scan Tool Data Definitions list contains a brief description of all of the engine related parameters that are available on the scan tool. The list is arranged in alphabetical order. A given parameter may appear in any one of the data lists. In some cases the parameter may appear more than once or in more than one data list in order to group certain related parameters together.
A/C Relay Circuit Status: This parameter displays the state of the A/C relay control circuit as commanded by the control module.
A/C Relay Command: This parameter displays the state of the A/C clutch relay control circuit as commanded by the control module.
APP Indicated Angle: This parameter displays the angle of the accelerator pedal position (APP) as calculated by the control module using the signals from the APP sensors.
APP Sensor 1: This parameter displays the actual voltage on the APP sensor 1 signal circuit as measured by the control module.
APP Sensor 1: This parameter displays the percentage of the APP sensor 1 signal circuit as measured by the control module.
APP Sensor 2: This parameter displays the actual voltage on the APP sensor 2 signal circuit as measured by the control module.
APP Sensor 2: This parameter displays the percentage of the APP sensor 1 signal circuit as measured by the control module.
APP Sensor 1 and 2: This parameter displays if APP sensor 1 and APP Sensor 2 are in agreement as measured by the control module.
Baro: This parameter displays the barometric pressure as calculated by the control module.
Calc. Converter Protection active: This parameter displays the catalytic converter protection activity.
Commanded Gear: This parameter displays the transmission gear commanded by the control module.
Current Gear Signal Valid: This parameter displays the transmission gear commanded by the control module.
Cycles Of Misfire Data: This parameter displays the number of cylinder firing events that were recorded as misfires as determined by the control module.
Cylinder 1-8 IC Circuit Status: This parameter displays the status of the IC control circuit.
Cylinder 1-8 Injector Circuit Status: This parameter displays the status of the fuel injector control circuit.
Cylinder 1-8 Knock Retard: This parameter displays the degree of knock retard for each cylinder.
Decel. Fuel Cutoff: This parameter displays the status of the operating mode of the control module used to turn off the fuel injectors during certain deceleration conditions.
Desired Exhaust CMP Bank 1 or Bank 2: This parameter displays the desired exhaust camshaft position as request by the control module.
Desired HO2S Bank 1 or Bank 2 Sensor 1: This parameter displays the desired HO2S value as requested by the control module.
Desired Idle Speed: This parameter displays the desired engine idle speed in RPM commanded by the control module.
Desired Intake CMP Bank 1 or Bank 2: This parameter displays the desired Intake camshaft position as request by the control module.
Desired Ignition Spark: This parameter displays the desired engine idle speed in RPM commanded by the control module.
Desired Torque: This parameter displays the desired engine idle speed in RPM commanded by the control module.
EC Ignition Relay Command: This parameter displays the state of the engine controls ignition relay as commanded by the ECM.
EC Ignition Relay Feedback Signal: This parameter displays the voltage from the engine control ignition relay.
ECM Reset: This parameter displays if the ECM has been reset.
ECT Sensor: This parameter displays the temperature of the engine coolant based on input to the control module from the ECT sensor.
Engine Load: This parameter displays the calculated engine load in percent based on inputs to the control module from various engine sensors.
Engine Off EVAP Test Conditions Met: This parameter displays if the conditions have been met to run the engine off EVAP test.
Engine Off EVAP Test Ran Last Ignition Cycle: This parameter displays if the engine off EVAP test ran during the last key off event.
Engine Off Time: This parameter displays the time elapsed since the engine was shut off.
Engine Oil Level Switch: This parameter displays the level of engine oil as determined by the control module from information received from the engine oil level switch.
Engine Oil Life Remaining: This parameter displays the percentage of engine oil life remaining before the the engine oil is changed.
Engine Oil Pressure Sensor: This parameter displays the state of the engine oil pressure as determined by the control module from information received from the engine oil pressure switch.
Engine Oil Temperature: This parameter displays the temperature of the engine oil.
Engine Run Time: This parameter displays the time elapsed since the engine was started.
Engine Speed: This parameter displays the speed of the engines crankshaft rotation from information received from the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor.
Engine Torque: This parameter displays the torque output of the engine.
EVAP Fault History: This parameter displays the presence of a fault in the EVAP system.
EVAP Purge Solenoid Command: This parameter displays the on-time or duty cycle of the EVAP canister purge solenoid commanded by the control module.
EVAP Purge Solenoid Circuit Status: This parameter displays the status of the EVAP purge solenoid control circuit as commanded by the ECM.
EVAP Vent Solenoid: This parameter displays the state of the driver circuit for EVAP vent solenoid as commanded by the control module.
EVAP Vent Solenoid Circuit Status: This parameter displays the status of the EVAP vent solenoid control circuit as commanded by the ECM.
EVAP Test Abort Reason: The scan tool displays Not Aborted, Lost Enable, Small Leak, Veh. Not at Rest. This parameter indicates the reason the EVAP system test was aborted.
EVAP Test Result: This parameter indicates the results of the EVAP system tests. The scan tool displays No Result, Aborted, Passed, Failed. This parameter indicates the results of the EVAP system tests.
EVAP Test State: The scan tool displays Wait For Purge, Test Running, Test Complete.
Exhaust CMP Angle Bank 1 or Bank 2: This parameter displays the degrees of advanced exhaust camshaft angle related to crankshaft position.
Fuel Level Sensor Left Tank: This parameter displays the voltage signal received by the control module from the left fuel level sensor.
Fuel Level Sensor Right Tank: This parameter displays the voltage signal received by the control module from the right fuel level sensor.
Fuel Pump Command: This parameter displays the control modules commanded state of the fuel pump.
Fuel Pump Command: This parameter displays the commanded state of the fuel pump in percentage.
Fuel Pump Speed Circuit Status: This parameter displays the integrity of the fuel pump control circuit.
Fuel Pump Speed Control Feedback: This parameter displays the unused amount of fuel pump speed control.
Fuel Tank Level Remaining: This parameter displays the amount of fuel in the tank as determined by the control module from information received from the left and right fuel tank level senders.
Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor: This parameter displays the voltage signal received by the control module from the fuel tank pressure (FTP) sensor.
Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor: This parameter displays the pressure vacuum inside the fuel tank. A negative value indicates a vacuum, while a positive value indicates a pressure.
Fuel Tank Rated Capacity: This parameter displays the capacity of the vehicle fuel tank.
Fuel Trim Cell: The scan tool displays a range of 0-23. The powertrain control module (PCM) determines from the manifold absolute pressure (MAP) and RPM inputs which fuel trim cell to operate the engine in. The fuel trim cell displayed on the scan tool is the cell that the engine is operating under.
Fuel Trim Learn: This parameter indicates if the control module is adjusting long term fuel trim ins response to the short term fuel trim.The s(an tool displays Enabled or Disabled. When conditions are appropriate for enabling long term fuel trim corrections, the scan tool displays Enabled.
Fuel Volatility: This parameter indicates the rate the fuel can be vaporized in the cylinder.
Generator L-Terminal Signal Command: The generator L terminal indicates whether the PCM is allowing the generator to operate. The PCM can disable the generator under certain conditions to ease starting engine load.
Hot Open Loop: This parameter indicates the current state of the fuel control system. Hot open loop indicates that the HO2S is warm enough to provide a signal to the control module, but is not using the HO2S signal for fuel control.
HO2S Bank 1 or Bank 2 Sensor 1: This parameter displays the voltage output from the bank 1 or bank 2 sensor 1 heated oxygen sensor (HO2S,) to the control module. Low voltage indicates a lean exhaust, while high voltage indicates a rich exhaust.
HO2S Bank 1 or Bank 2 Sensor 2: This parameter displays the voltage output from the bank 1 or bank 2 sensor 2 heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) to the control module. Low voltage indicates a lean exhaust, while high voltage indicates a rich exhaust.
HO2S Heater Bank 1 or Bank 2 Sensor 1: This parameter displays the commanded state of the bank 1 or bank 2 sensor 1 heater control circuit as commanded by the control module.
HO2S Heater Bank 1 or Bank 2 Sensor 2: his parameter displays the commanded state of the bank 1 or bank 2 sensor 2 heater control circuit as commanded by the control module.
HO2S Heater Bank 1 or Bank 2 Sensor 1: This parameter displays the commanded state of the bank 1 or bank 2 sensor 1 heater control circuit duty cycle as commanded by the control module.
HO2S Heater Bank 1 or Bank 2 Sensor 2: This parameter displays the commanded state of the bank 1 or bank 2 sensor 2 heater control circuit duty cycle as commanded by the control module.
IAT Sensor: This parameter displays the temperature of the intake air entering the air induction system based on input to the control module from the intake air temperature (IAT) sensor.
