Condition
Some customers may comment on a no-start condition because of a discharged battery. This condition usually occurs after the vehicle has sat for an extended period of time - approximately 3-4 days - and when parked near other vehicles with tire pressure monitoring systems (TPM).
Cause
This condition may be due to RF traffic from other vehicles causing the modules on the class 2 line to wake up intermittently, resulting in a battery draw/load.
This draw/load on the battery could discharge the battery to the point where the battery will not have sufficient amperage to start the vehicle.
Diagnosis
Rely on customer feedback to determine when the condition occurred. If the customer states that the battery died overnight, then most likely the antenna module is not the source. If the customer had their vehicle in a busy parking lot for several days and the battery died, then the antenna module may be the source.
The GM part number for the antenna module can be obtained using the Tech 2(R). Use the table to determine if the vehicle has a suspect module.
Correction
Replace the remote control door lock receiver assembly (antenna module) using the procedure listed below:
1. Pull downward on the front of the rear parking assist (RPA) telltale indicator to release the retaining clips.
2. Disconnect the electrical from the RPA telltale indicator and remove from the headliner.
3. Remove the left body side rear upper garnish molding.
4. Remove the left side cargo tie down bezel fasteners.
5. Remove the left side coat hook fastener.
6. Pull downward on the headliner just enough to access the antenna module. Be careful not to crease the headliner.
7. Disconnect the coax cables from the antenna module.
8. Disconnect the electrical from the antenna module and side glass.
9. Remove the antenna module from the mounting bracket.
10. Install the antenna module to the mounting bracket.
11. Connect the electrical to the antenna module and side glass.
12. Connect the coax cables to the antenna module.
13. Install the headliner back into position.
14. Install the left side coat hook fastener.
15. Install the left side cargo tie down bezel fasteners.
16. Install the left body side rear upper garnish molding.
17. Connect the electrical to the RPA tell tale indicator and install to the headliner. Push upward on the front of the RPA in order to secure the retaining clips.
