Subject:
Gap Between Primary Weatherstrip and Lower Rear Quarter Trim Panel (Install Foam Block)
Models:
2007-2008 Cadillac Escalade
2007-2008 Chevrolet Tahoe
2007-2008 GMC Yukon
Condition
Some customers may comment on a gap between the weatherstrip and the lower quarter trim panel ("D" pillar) at the base.
Cause
The door weatherstrip may have dropped down below the quarter trim panel instead of sitting on top of it.
Correction
Inserting the foam block behind the quarter trim panel will keep the weatherstrip from dropping down below the trim panel instead of sitting on top of it.
1. Remove the sill plate liftgate weatherstrip and pull the quarter trim outboard at the base of the "D" pillar just enough to insert the foam block.
2. This insulator is used for another part of the vehicle and it will be necessary to cut 10 mm (3/8 in) off the top of the foam block for it to fit this correction.
3. Bend the foam into a "banana shape to match the floor plan curvature.
4. Insert the foam block at the base of the "D" pillar. Press/rub the foam to ensure a good bond.
5. Push on the quarter trim panel to make sure it is seated and reinstall the weatherstrip and sill plate.
