DTC P0560

Diagnostic Instructions

* Perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle (Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview) prior to using this diagnostic procedure.
* Review Strategy Based Diagnosis (Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview) for an overview of the diagnostic approach.
* Diagnostic Procedure Instructions (Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview) provides an overview of each diagnostic category.

DTC Descriptor
DTC P0560
- System Voltage

Circuit/System Description

The engine control module (ECM) monitors the system voltage to ensure that the voltage stays within the proper range. Damage to components and incorrect data may occur when the voltage is out of range.

Conditions for Running the DTC

* The vehicle speed is below 40 km/h (25 mph).
* The system voltage is below 11 volts or above 16 volts.
* Engine speed is above 1,500 RPM.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

The ECM detects a system voltage out of range for 2 seconds.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

DTC P0560 is a C type DTC.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

DTC P0560 is a C type DTC.

Circuit/System Verification

Engine running, observe the scan tool ECM Ignition 1 signal parameter. The ignition 1 signal parameter should read between 11.5-15.5 volts.

Circuit/System Testing

1. Verify that DTC P0560 is set as current.

If the DTC is history, refer to Charging System Test (Charging System Test) .

2. Measure the voltage at the battery terminals and compare it with the scan tool ECM Ignition 1 signal parameter. Verify that battery and Ignition 1 signal readings do not differ more than 2.0 volts.

If greater than the specified value, test the Ignition 1 and ground circuits of the ECM for an open/high resistance.

* Ignition 1 signal 3.6L X2 terminal 5 and X2 terminal 54.
* Ignition 1 signal 4.6L X1 terminal 19 and X2 terminals 13 and 28.
* Ground circuits 3.6L X2 terminals 1-2 and 4.
* Ground circuits 4.6L X2 terminal 73 and X3 terminal 73.

3. If the circuits test normal, replace the ECM.

Repair Instructions

Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification (Verification Tests) after completing the diagnostic procedure.
