Upper Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement
Removal Procedure
Notice: The front wheels of the vehicle must be maintained in the straight ahead position and the steering column must be in the LOCK position before disconnecting the steering column or intermediate shaft. Failure to follow these procedures will cause improper alignment of some components during installation and result in damage to the SIR coil assembly.
Important: The steering column is removed with the upper intermediate steering shaft attached.
1. Remove the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement (Steering Column Replacement) .
2. Remove the steering column boot seal to access the upper intermediate steering shaft bolt.
Important: Mark the relationship of the upper intermediate steering shaft to the steering column in order to ensure proper alignment during installation. If the upper intermediate steering shaft is being replaced make sure to transfer any alignment marks made on the old shaft.
3. Remove the upper intermediate steering shaft bolt.
4. Remove the upper intermediate steering shaft from the steering column.
Installation Procedure
1. Install the upper intermediate steering shaft to the steering column.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice (Fastener Notice) .
2. Install the upper intermediate steering shaft bolt.
Tighten the bolt to 48 N.m (35 lb ft).
3. Install the steering column boot seal.
4. Install the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement (Steering Column Replacement) .
