SUBJECT: ROUGH IDLE OR STALL AT IDLE
MODELS AFFECTED: 1982 CIMARRONS
Some 1982 Cimarrons may experience an engine roughness at idle or slightly off-idle. These vehicles may also experience a stall at idle. These conditions may be caused by a vacuum leak at the EFE heater generating a lean air/fuel mixture condition.
FIGURE 1 - EFE HEATER:
To repair this condition, normal service manual diagnostic procedures should be followed to isolate the cause of a lean air/fuel mixture. If the Early Fuel Evaporation (EFE) heater, located between the carburetor and the intake manifold (Figure 1), is identified as the source of the vacuum leak, then the heater should be replaced following normal service procedures described in Section 6C1 of the Cimarron Service Information Manual.
The EFE heater, P/N 14018761, is available from GMSPO on their "target program" and is covered by GM's 5 year/50,000 mile emission warranty.
For warranty purposes, use Labor Operation J5125 at .7 hour.
