SUBJECT: 125C TRANSAXLE OIL LEAKS OIL PAN AND AUXILIARY VALVE BODY COVER

MODELS AFFECTED: 1982-1983 CIMARRONS

Beginning early in the model year, Cimarrons equipped with 125C automatic transaxles were built using a new oil pan and auxiliary valve body cover. These new parts are thicker than previous designs and have a raised continuous rib on the flange (refer to Figure 1). A new type hex head screw and conical washer assembly (refer to Figure 2) are used along with a thicker gasket. These changes were made to reduce the possibility of oil leaks in these areas.

When servicing 1982-1983 Cimarrons equipped with a THM 125C transaxle for oil leaks in these areas, follow the listed service procedures and parts information.

Service Procedures

1. Refer to Section 7A of the Service Information Manual for the proper removal and installation procedures for the affected parts.

2. Visually inspect: (A) the pan or cover; and, (B) bolts to determine if the new parts have been used (units built after model and I.D. numbers CA1001 and CB1004 should have the later design parts).

3. Assure that all new service parts are used. If new parts have been used, you should need only the gasket.

NOTICE: (A) Do not use RTV with the new pan or cover.

(B) When reassembling with the new parts, take care not to over-torque the bolts. Split or cracked gaskets may result. Bolts should be torqued to 8- 14 N-m (6-10 ft.lbs.).
