A/T - Rough Neutral to Drive Gear Engagement

SUBJECT: ROUGH NEUTRAL TO DRIVE GEAR ENGAGEMENT - THM 125C

MODELS AFFECTED: 1982-1984 CIMARRON

This information supersedes Serviceman Bulletin T-84-56, Group 7, Number 95, which should be destroyed.

Some 1982-1984 Cimarrons equipped with a THM 125C transaxle may experience a rough or harsh gear engagement when shifting from Park and/or Neutral to Drive.

To correct this condition, a new forward clutch wave plate (P/N 8652126) went into production in December, 1983, beginning with 1984 model transaxle unit numbers CA2724 and CB221301. This wave plate is similar in appearance to the plate it replaces, but allows for a smoother clutch apply due to its greater deflection load rate.

All 1982 and 1983 models as well as 1984 models produced before the breakpoints listed above which are experiencing this condition may be serviced using the new design wave plate. Refer to Section 7A of the appropriate Service Information Manual for proper instructions to remove and reinstall the transaxle, along with Section 125C for unit repair instructions to install the forward clutch wave plate.
