Sunroof - Vista Vent Water Leaks
Bulletin No. T 85-6File In Group 10
Number 61
Date Sept. 84
SUBJECT: VISTA VENT WATER LEAKS
MODELS AFFECTED: 1982, 1983 AND 1984 CIMARRON
FIGURE 1 - Sunroof Assembly:
Some 1982, 1983 and 1984 Cimarrons may experience water leaks at the vista vent. This condition may be caused by either inadequate weatherstrip sealing and/or vista vent glass panel hinge or latch assembly bushings that are split due to over tightening the attaching screws.
If the hinge or latch assembly bushing is split, replace with P/N 20586100 and torque the attaching screws to 3 N-m (26 inch pounds) (not 6 N-m, 53 inch pounds as previously specified). Refer to Item #2 and #16 in Figure 1.
For warranty replacement of bushing(s), use Labor Operation T6106 at .2 hour (one or all).
If the weatherstrip is leaking, replace with P/N 20534581 as follows:
1. Remove the vent assembly.
2. Break adhesive bond between weatherstrip and gutter around perimeter of opening and remove weatherstrip.
Application of heat (as with a hot air gun or adhesive removing solvent) applied to weatherstrip gutter speeds weatherstrip removal.
3. Remove adhesive remaining in the weatherstrip gutter with an adhesive removing solvent.
FIGURE 2 - Weatherstrip Gutter:
4. Apply a coat of black adhesive to weatherstrip gutter (Figure 2). Be sure lap joints in gutter are covered with adhesive.
5. Apply a coat of adhesive to bonding surface of weatherstrip. When cement becomes tacky, insert weatherstrip into gutter for final bond. The joint of the weatherstrip must be located at center of sides.
6. Using a nozzle-type applicator, apply a bead of black weatherstrip adhesive between outer edge of weatherstrip and body opening.
For warranty purposes use Labor Operation C1380 at .8 hour to replace the weatherstrip.
