Engine: Service and Repair








Removal
1. Remove hood; for easier installation, scribe marks should be made at hood hinge and the hinge bracket.
2. Disconnect battery.
3. Drain radiator and block.
4. Remove air cleaner.
5. Remove heater hoses.
6. Remove fan blade, pulleys and belts.
7. Disconnect radiator hoses from engine.
8. Remove fan shroud assembly.
9. Remove cooler lines from radiator.
10. Remove radiator.
11. Remove air conditioning compressor.
12. Disconnect all electrical wires and vacuum hoses.
13. Disconnect accelerator cable at carburetor.
14. Disconnect fuel pump lines and plug hoses.
15. Remove power steering pump to mounting bracket bolts and position pump assembly out of way.
16. Disconnect generator, oil and coolant sending unit switch connections at the engine and remove generator.
17. Disconnect engine to body ground strap(s) at engine.
18. Hoist car and remove starter.
19. Drain the oil from the engine crankcase.
20. Remove converter cover.
21. Remove converter to flywheel bolts.
22. Remove transmission to engine bolts.
23. Remove right output shaft support bolts.
24. Remove front motor mount bolts.
25. Install final drive support chain, BT-6322.
26. Remove remaining engine to transmission bolts.
27. Remove final drive to engine bracket.
28. Attach a lifting device, BT-6606, to the engine and raise the engine.

Installation
1. Reverse removal procedure.
2. Torque fasteners to specifications.
3. Check for proper oil level and start engine.
