Drive Axle Boot - Torn or Worn
Bulletin No. T 84-35AFile In Group 4C
Number 5
Date Apr. '84
SUBJECT: "E/K" DRIVE AXLE BOOT TORN OR WORN
MODELS AFFECTED: 1979-1984 ELDORADOS AND 1980-1984 SEVILLES
This bulletin supersedes Serviceman Bulletin #T-84-35, Group 4C, #5, January 1984, which should be destroyed.
Some Eldorados and Sevilles may experience a torn or worn neoprene drive axle boot commonly diagnosed as a leak under the front of the car or a squeak in the front end. This condition, which is more prevalent at high ambient temperatures, may result from the drive axle grease inside the axle boot reacting with the boot material over a prolonged period of time. In midFebruary of 1983, a new grease was released for production. All GMWDD stock of drive axle boots currently includes the new grease; the part numbers for the drive axle service parts remained the same. A separate grease kit is available for servicing the drive axle assemblies. Part numbers for the grease kits containing the new grease for the inboard and outboard seals are as follows:
GREASE SERVICE
KIT P/N
Outboard 7845010
Inboard 7845011
When servicing a drive axle shaft, make certain only new grease is used.
