TRANSMISSION BOTTOM OIL PAN LEAK - 1982 AND 1983 THM 325-4L
FIGURE 1 - Accumulator Housing:
Some 1982 and 1983 Eldorados and Sevilles equipped with THM 325-4L transmissions may exhibit a transmission oil pan leak which is caused by an interference between the 1-2 and 3-4 accumulator housing and the transmission bottom oil pan.
Beginning late in March, 1983, all THM 325-4L transmissions were produced using a new accumulator housing (Figure #1) to correct the interference condition.
FIGURE 2 - Accumulator Housing:
When servicing any 1982 or 1983 THM 325-4L transmission for a bottom oil pan leak, inspect for interference with the accumulator housing when the pan is removed. If evidence of an interference exists, remove the accumulator housing and grind or file off a portion of the casting boss (Figure #2 Inset). When removing this material, use caution to avoid damaging the cup plug. Remove only a minimum amount of material from the accumulator housing to eliminate its interference with the transmission oil pan.
