Intermediate Servo Assembly

1. Using tool J-28493, depress servo cover. Using a small screwdriver, remove retaining ring, see image.

2. Remove tool, then using pliers, remove intermediate servo cover. Seal ring may be located in case. If intermediate servo cover cannot be removed, apply air pressure to intermediate servo exhaust port, see image.

3. Remove intermediate servo piston and band apply pin assembly, see image.

4. Check for proper intermediate band apply pin as follows:

a. Install tool J-25O14-2 in intermediate servo bore and retain with retaining ring, see image. Align ring with gap at case slot.

b. Install pin J-24014-1 into J-25014-2, making sure tapered end of pin is properly located against the band apply lug.

c. Install dial indicator J-8001 and position indicator point on top of J25014-2. Set dial indicator to zero, see image above step 4a.

d. Align stepped side of pin J-25014- 1 with torquing arm of J-25014-2. Arm must stop against step of pin J-25014-1.

e. Making sure J-25014-2 gauge plate is pulled backwards and seated squarely against retaining ring, apply 8 ft. lbs. of torque to hex nut on side of gauge. Slide dial indicator over gauge pin J-25014-1. Read dial indicator, then select proper apply pin according to chart, see image. If pin does not register between the high and low limits, check for possible problem with intermediate band, direct clutch housing or case. Dial indicator. travel is reversed, making the indicator readings backwards. On an indicator reading that ranges from 0-100, a .02 inch travel will read .080 inch, a .060 inch will read .040 inch. The identification ring is located on the band end of the pin.

f. Remove retaining ring and band-apply gauges. If new apply pin is required, disassemble intermediate servo piston and replace pin.
