INOPERATIVE [1][2]TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH - THM 200-4R
Some 1983 "C" cars equipped with THM 200-4R transmissions may experience a condition of an inoperative [1][2]torque converter clutch. On DFI equipped vehicles, a code 39 would also be present. This condition may be caused by the torque converter clutch harness locating clip grounding the wiring to the transmission control valve assembly.
FIGURE 1 - IDENTIFYING TRANSMISSIONS SERIAL NUMBER:
For identification purposes, the transmission's serial number tag is located in the right rear of the THM 200-4R transmission case (refer to Figure 1) and uses the following format:
245 1 T 83 AA 1083
Julian Calendar Transmission Serial
Date of Build Shift Plant Code Model Year Model Number
THM 200-4R transmissions with any date of build codes prior to 245 may have been assembled with the TCC harness locating clip incorrectly positioned.
FIGURE 2 - POSITIONING THE CLIP:
To correct the inoperative TCC condition, replace the applicable torque converter clutch solenoid and harness assembly (P/N 8634960 for AA model transmissions and PIN 8634961 for OM model transmissions), and correctly position the clip by rotating it as far rearward as possible; then, bend it toward the depression in the control valve body assembly (approximately 60~ clockwise from its original position as shown in Figure 2 on the reverse side of this bulletin).
For warranty purposes, use labor Operation Number K6520 at .6 hour.
