FIGURE 3 - THM 200-C TRANSMISSION NAMEPLATE:

A change to the servo cover retaining ring and case casting was incorporated into some THM 200-4R and 325-4L transmissions produced during the 1985 model year. The later type retaining ring has tang type ends (refer to Figure 1). Tang ends eliminate the need for access notches in the servo bore of the case (refer to Figure 2).
Production of both the early type and late type transmission will continue on both THM 200-4R and 325-4L until all production can be converted to the later design.

Refer to the following information when servicing the listed transmissions to ensure proper assembly.

Early Type Transmission - With Servo Bore Case Notches

Either the early type retaining ring (P/N 8628137) without tang ends or the later type retaining ring (P/N 8657213) with tang ends may be used.

Late Type Transmission - Without Servo Bore Case Notches

Only late type retaining rings (P/N 8657213) should be used on late type transmissions. Use of an early type ring may result in difficult removal of the ring. If removal of an early type ring is required, depress the servo cover using tool J-29714 and attempt removal using a small flat bladed screwdriver.
