CHART C-10
A/C CLUTCH CONTROL
2.0L "J" SERIES,
Closing the A/C control switch supplies ignition voltage to CKT 67, the high pressure "cut off" and the low pressure safety switch located on the compressor.
Normally both switches will be closed and there will be ignition voltage on CKT 59 and ECM terminal B8.
If the engine is running the ECM delays about 1/2 second then grounds CKT 905 closing the A/C control relay. If the engine is idling, the delay reduces the idle "dip" by allowing engine RPM to increase slightly before the clutch is applied.
The ECM will not engage or will disengage the clutch if:
- Engine is not running
- Engine overheats (coolant above 257°F,125°C)
- System voltage exceeds 17.1 volts
- Coolant temperature less than 77°F,25°C
- Heavy acceleration
- Power Steering Pressure Switch closed.
When engine is stopped (ignition off) the clutch will engage momentarily to prevent engine "run on" and provide a smooth shut down.
