Bulletin No. T-88-46
File in Group 3B
Number 24
Corp. Ref. No. 773203
Date Nov. '87
SUBJECT: RATTLE FROM TURN SIGNAL LEVER

MODELS AFFECTED: 1983-1987 CIMARRON 1985-1987 DE VILLE AND FLEETWOOD

Some 1983-1987 Cimarrons and 1985-1987 DeVilles and Fleetwoods may experience a condition of a rattle-type noise originating from the multi-function turn signal lever. This condition may be caused by excess looseness or play in the windshield washer actuator paddle.

To repair this condition, install a foam insulator onto the lever using the following procedure:

1. Make sure the lever is in the center or "OFF" position (turn signal not on).

2. Make sure that the windshield wiper switch is set to the "OFF" position. This must be done to prevent damage to the windshield wiper switch.

3. Pull the lever straight out from the column using care not to pull any excess amount of wire from the column on cars equipped with cruise control.

FIGURE 1 - INSTALLING INSULATOR:

4. Check the inner end of the lever for presence of a previously installed insulator, refer to Figure 1. Also cheek in the steering column opening for an insulator which may have been misinstalled during assembly.
5. If an insulator is present and it is not damaged, it can be reinstalled. If the insulator is damaged or missing, obtain a Turn Signal Switch Lever Insulator, P/N 22524202.

6. The insulator has a glossy appearance at one end. Install the insulator with the glossy end away from the shoulder of the paddle, refer to Figure 1. Make sure the insulator is positioned over the two protrusions at the end of the windshield washer paddle and is flush against the shoulder of the paddle.
7. Reassemble the turn signal lever assembly to the steering column by pushing it back into the turn signal switch. Check the lever for proper function of all switches.
