Engine: Service and Repair



Remove or Disconnect
1. Battery cables from battery
2. Air cleaner
3. Drain cooling system
4. Mass Air Flow sensor
5. Exhaust crossover heat shield
6. Exhaust crossover pipe
7. Serpentine, belt tensioner and belt
8. Power steering pump mounting bracket
9. Heater pipe at power steering pump mounting bracket
10. Radiator hose at the engine
11. Accelerator and T.V. cable at throttle valve
12. Generator
13. Wiring harness at engine
14. Fuel hoses
15. Coolant bypass and overflow hoses at the engine
16. Canister purge hose at the canister
17. Necessary vacuum hoses
18. Raise car.
19. Right inner fender splash shield
20. Harmonic balancer
21. Flywheel cover
22. Starter bolts
23. Electrical wires at starter and remove the starter
24. Wires at oil sending unit
25. A/C compressor and related bracket
26. Exhaust pipe at rear of manifold
27. Mark relationship, then flywheel-to-torque converter bolts
28. Transaxle to engine brace bolts
29. Engine rear mount-to-frame nuts
30. Disconnect shift cable bracket at transaxle
31. Lower bellhousing bolts
32. Lower car.
33. Heater hoses at the engine
34. Install engine lifting devise
35. Support transaxle with suitable jack.
36. Upper bellhousing bolts
37. Front mount bolts
38. Brake master cylinder and place aside
39. Engine

Install or Connect
1. Engine and remove engine lifting devise
2. Brake master cylinder
3. Front motor mount bolts
4. Upper bellhousing bolts
5. Remove transaxle jack
6. Heater hoses onto engine
7. Raise car.
8. Lower bellhousing bolts
9. Shift cable bracket at transaxle
10. Engine rear mount-to-frame nuts
^ If rear engine mount bracket is removed, the following procedure should be used to ensure proper engine mount bracket location.
a. Loosely install engine mount bracket
b. Raise engine and transaxle
c. Tighten engine mount nuts and bolts to specifications.
11. Transaxle-to-engine bolts
12. Flywheel-to-torque converter bolts
Note:
^ Observe marks made during disassembly and line up in the original position.
^ Make sure weld nuts on the torque converter are flush with the flywheel.
^ Test torque converter for freedom of rotation.
^ Tighten three bolts finger tight, then tighten to specifications. Retighten the first bolt tightened.
13. Exhaust pipe at rear of manifold
14. A/C compressor and related brackets and bolt
15. Wires at oil sending unit
16. Electrical wires at starter and install starter
17. Flywheel cover
18. Harmonic balance
19. Right inner fender splash shield
20. Lower car.
21. Necessary vacuum lines and electrical wires
22. Canister purge hose at the canister
23. Coolant bypass and overflow hoses at the engine
24. Fuel hoses
25. Generator and wires
26. Accelerator and T.V. cable at throttle valve
27. Radiator hose at the engine
28. Heater pipe at P/S pump mounting bracket
29. Serpentine belt
30. Exhaust crossover pipe and heat shield
31. Mass Air Flow sensor and air cleaner
32. Fill cooling system.
33. Battery

Adjust
^ Accessory Drive Belts

Inspect
^ Engine Oil Level
^ Leaks
