Cooling System - Coolant After-Boil Condition

Date Mar. '86
SUBJECT: COOLANT AFTER-BOIL
MODELS AFFECTED: 1985 and 1986 CIMARRONS EQUIPPED WITH 2.8L V-6 ENGINES
Some Cimarrons built prior to 1986 VIN breakpoint 505522 and equipped with 2.8L V-6 engines may experience an after boil condition.
This condition may occur after the vehicle has been driven under heavy engine load conditions (such as driving up a steep hill), and is immediately turned off before the engine has returned to normal operating temperatures. After shutting the engine off, a gurgling sound may be heard due to coolant expansion which may cause the coolant reservoir to overflow.
To correct this condition, a new coolant reservoir (P/N 14093493) has been released for production and service use. This reservoir has an additional 20 ounce capacity and may be installed in vehicles equipped with a 2.8L V-6 engine and built prior to VIN breakpoint 505522. Two replacement clamps (P/N 477402) are required; however, both hoses may be reused.
For warranty purposes, use labor Operation J3260 for .2 hours.
