SUBJECT: ENGINE BLOCK HEATER LEAKAGE AND/OR INSTALLATION ON 2.8L V-6

MODELS AFFECTED: 1985-1988 CIMARRONS

Some 1985-1988 Cimarrons with a 2.8L V-6 engine (VIN W) may experience a coolant leak in the area of the engine block heater. This condition may be caused by improper block heater installation. If the block heater is identified as the source of the coolant leak, repair this condition by replacing the block heater. Reuse of the engine block heater is not recommended because of the stressed clamping and sealing components.

FIGURE 1 - BLOCK HEATER INSTALLATION:

Correct installation of the engine block heater with the heating element is in the 6 o'clock position (Figure 1) and torqued to 1.6 - 2.2 N-m (14.4 - 19.2 in.lbs.).
