Horn - Hard to Activate

SUBJECT: HORN HARD TO ACTIVATE
MODELS AFFECTED: 1986 CIMARRON
Some 1986 Cimarrons may experience horns that are difficult to activate. This condition occurs when the horn trim pad is pressed around the outer edge. To correct this condition, proceed as follows:
Figure 1 - Disassembly:
1. Remove horn trim pad (pull off).
2. Disconnect and remove horn contact assembly (pull off) (see Figure 1).
Figure 2 - Gasket Modification:
Refer to Figure 2 for Steps 3-7.
3. Place soldering iron on gasket at points A and B as shown until segment of plastic gasket is removable.
4. Remove gasket segment between points A and B.
5. Place soldering iron on gasket at points C and D as shown until segment of plastic gasket is removable.
6. Remove gasket segment between points C and D.
7. Insert easily compressible foam strips approximately 5 mm thick with adhesive backing where gasket segments were removed.

8. Reinstall horn contact assembly (push on) (refer to Figure 1).
9. Inspect horn contact plate for any damage during modification. If horn contact plate is distorted, repair or replace as necessary.
10. Reinstall horn trim pad (push on).
For warranty purposes, use Labor Operation T6171 at .3 hours.
