SUBJECT: CRUSHNG OF ROYAL PRIMA CLOTH
MODELS AFFECTED: 1986-1988 DE VILLES AND FLEETWOODS 1987-1988 BROUGHAMS
This bulletin supersedes Bulletin T-87-134 relating to Prima cloth and including a repair procedure to remove minor amounts of nap distortion.
Some Cadillac models with Prima or Royal Prima cloth interiors may exhibit a crushed condition due to the distortion of the material's nap. This condition may appear as a worn spot on seats, door trim, pad inserts, or as indentations under a seat belt buckle.
The condition does not represent a discrepancy in the material or workmanship of the vehicle. All velour-type cloths, including Prima and Royal Prima, are susceptible to nap distortion over time and under constant load. Moderate amounts of distortion can be repaired using the following procedure. Note, however, that under constant load the distortion may reappear.
1. Using Jiffy Steamer, Model J-3 or equivalent, apply steam directly to the Royal Prima cloth where the distortion is apparent. Apply enough to moisten the cloth, but do not soak it.
2. Brush the crushed cloth area gently against the direction of the distortion with a soft bristle brush (such as a horse hair shoe brush). Once the cloth fibers are loosened, brush in a circular motion in area to work the nap back and forth.
3. Let area dry.
4. After cloth is dry, brush again to loosen the fibers.
5. If distortion is still apparent, repeat the above procedure.
