Cooling Fans
COOLING FANSThe cooling system utilizes two plastic fans. The right side fan is 320mm (12.6 in.) in diameter and the left side fan is 4lOmm (16.1 in.) in diameter.
The fans are driven by individual electric motors which are controlled electronically by the BCM (Body Computer Module). Fan speed is variable and is controlled through pulse width modulation based on engine coolant and A/C high pressure refrigerant temperatures.
Both fans are commanded "ON" with half power at a calibrated engine coolant or A/C high pressure refrigerant temperature threshold. Fan power increases as engine or refrigerant temperatures increase and reaches full power at a higher calibrated engine coolant or A/C high pressure refrigerant temperature. Undesirable on-off operation of the fans is eliminated by utilizing turn-off temperatures lower than the turn-on temperatures.
