Mode Button Settings
Climate Control Panel:
BLOWER FAN CONTROL "LO", "NORM", "HI"
These buttons on the Climate Control Panel (CCP) will control fans speed operation. If the "NORM" button is selected the bower fan will operate automatically based on the various inputs to the system.
NOTE: The following paragraphs on mode temperature settings will explain operations as if the "NORM" button was selected. If the "HI" button is selected, the fan will always run at a fixed high rate of speed. This is an override of automatic fan speed control. If the "LO" fan button is selected the fan will always run at a fixed low rate speed. This is also an override of automatic fan speed control.
TEMPERATURE SETTINGS
Temperature settings should be used to select the particular setting that is most comfortable, regardless of the outside temperature. These settings work much the same way as a house thermostat. Settings are spaced out between 65°F and 85°F with increments of 1°F. To change temperature settings, press the "WARMER" or "COOLER" button until the temperature setting you wish is displayed. When a temperature of 65 is selected, and the "COOLER" button is touched, the system goes to 60, or max cool. This means that the system will control to the coolest air delivery possible for the selected mode. This will continue until another temperature setting is selected. Cooling cannot occur if the mode selected is "OFF" or "ECON", as in these settings the compressor will not run. The opposite is also true, if 85 is selected and the "WARMER" button is touched, the system goes to 90, or max heat, and will control to the warmest air delivery possible for the selected mode. This will continue until another temperature setting is selected.
"OFF" SETTING
With this setting selected the system will not let the fan blower motor or A/C compressor run. The system will, however, still try to reach the temperature range selected. For example, if 70 is selected and it is a cold day, the car may eventually reach the 70°F temperature range, but over a long period of time due to the blower fan not running. If it is a hot day, it will cool the car by closing the temperature door so no heat will be allowed to enter. But it can only c9ol the car to around outside air temperature since in this position, the fan blower motor and A/C compressor will not run. This selection forces the air inlet door open to outside air and forces all air coming out of the module to the floor.
"ECON" SETTING
In this setting the system will not let the A/C compressor run. It will adjust to the temperature selected. It cannot, however, cool the car colder than outside temperature, as in this selection the A/C compressor will not run. This setting is automatic in that it determines fan blower speed and air outlet positions by the different inputs. All incoming air into the Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) module is from outside. Depending on the heating or cooling requirement, the air will enter the passenger compartment from one of the following three positions:
1. All out the floor
2. All out the A/C outlets
3. All out the defroster outlet
"AUTO" SETTING
In this setting everything is controlled automatically based on the various A/C system inputs. In this setting the system has the capability of any fan blower speed, any air inlet position, and any air outlet position to reach and maintain the selected temperature. Depending on the heating or cooling requirements, the air will enter the passenger compartment from one of the following three positions:
1. All out the floor
2. All out the A/C outlets
3. All out the defroster outlet
"DEF" SETTING
In this setting, everything is controlled automatically, as in "AUTO", except that the air is always delivered out the defroster grille on the top of the instrument panel.
