Oxygen Sensor: Service and Repair

The pigtail and connector are permanently attached to the oxygen sensor and must not be disturbed.
1. Run engine until normal operating temperature is reached, then stop engine.
2. Disconnect battery ground cable, then the oxygen sensor electrical connector. Keep sensor electrical connector free of grease and other contaminants.
3. Raise and support vehicle.
4. Carefully back out oxygen sensor, Fig. 79.
5. Reverse procedure to install. Torque sensor to 30 ft. lbs. If original oxygen sensor is to be returned to service, a suitable anti-seize compound should be applied to sensor threads. New sensors will already have the compound applied to the threads.
