Bulletin No. T 87-24
File in Group 7
Number 145
Corp. Ref. No. 677120R
Date Oct. '86
SUBJECT: 1986 440-T4 TRANSAXLE UPDATES: INPUT SHAFT SEAL DELETED. 3RD CLUTCH PLATES REVISED. CONVERTER CLUTCH REGULATOR VALVE SPRING ELIMINATED.
MODELS AFFECTED:

INPUT SHAFT SEAL CHANGE:

All 1986 model THM 440-T4 transaxles are built without an input shaft to 4th clutch shaft seal. When servicing a THM 440-T4 built prior to 1986, it is not necessary to reinstall an input shaft to 4th clutch shaft seal.

3RD CLUTCH PLATE CHANGE:

At the start of 1986 production, all THM 440-T4 transaxles are built with single-sided clutch plates. When servicing 3rd clutch plates on any year/model 440-T4, use the single-sided clutch plates (Service Package No. 8646938).

SPRING ELIMINATED:

All 1986 production on transaxle model codes AAH, ACH, ADH, AFH, AMH, ARH (see Figure 1 for Transaxle Model Identification) are built with the converter clutch regulator valve spring eliminated. Due to calibration and fluid passage changes, the spring is no longer required (Figure 2, Item 394).

Do not install this spring on any 1986 models with model codes AAH, ACH, ADH, AFH, AMH, ARH as an increase of the apply feel of the converter clutch may result.

Refer to the appropriate Service Manual for removal and installation procedures.
