SUBJECT: TRANSAXLE SHIFT CABLE ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURE

MODELS AFFECTED: 1986 ELDORADO AND SEVILLE

TRANSAXLE SHIFT CABLE ADJUSTMENT:

A new design transaxle shift cable entered production on 1986 Eldorados and Sevilles. This cable requires a new adjustment procedure. Vehicles equipped with the new design cable can be identified by the fixed attachment at the transaxle detent lever and the spring included in the adjustment mechanism. To adjust the transaxle shift cable, use the following procedure:

1) Place console shift lever in "N" (Neutral).

2) Compress lock tabs and pull lock clip up (see Figure).

3) Position transaxle detent lever in neutral. Obtain neutral position by rotating the transaxle detent lever clockwise from park position, through reverse into neutral. Verify console shift lever is in "N" (Neutral).

4) Push lock clip down into the locked position.

For warranty purposes, use operation K-5244 shift linkage adjust, at .4 hours.
