Water Pump: Service and Repair

WATER PUMP OR GASKET - REPLACE

Remove or Disconnect
1. Negative battery cable(s)
2. Drain cooling system.
3. Upper radiator shroud
4. Fan and fan clutch or spacer
5 Water pump pulley
6. Belts
7. Radiator hose at water pump
8. Heater hose at water pump
9. By-Pass hose
10. Gasoline engines
a. A.I.R. Pump Pulley (V-8)
b. A.I.R. Pump Bracket
11. Power steering pump pulley (V-8)

12. Power steering pump bracket
13. Water pump bolts
14. Water pump

Clean
- Gasket surface

Important
- Apply 1050026 sealer or equivalent to gasket surfaces and water pump bolts.

Install or Connect
1. Pump. Tighten bolts to specification.
2. Power steering pump bracket
3. Power steering pump pulley

4. Gasoline engines
a. A.I.R. Pump Bracket
b. A.I.R. Pump Pulley (V-8)
5. By-Pass hose
6. Heater hose at water pump
7. Radiator hose at water pump
8. Belts
9. Water pump pulley
10. Fan and fan clutch or spacer, tighten bolts/nuts to specifications.
11. Upper radiator shroud
12. Refill cooling system.

Adjust
- Belts, See Fan Belt Tension.
13. Negative battery cable(s)
14. Start engine.

Inspect
- Leaks
- Proper Coolant Level
