SUBJECT: INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET SERVICE PROCEDURE

MODELS AFFECTED: 1986 FLEETWOOD BROUGHAM WITH 5.0L - V8 ENGINE (VIN CODE Y)

A mid-year design change was made to the 5.0 liter V-8 engine intake manifold gasket. The introduction of the Fleetwood Brougham in January 1986, however, places all Cadillac production after the change. All initial Cadillac production was either engine unit codes "UBH" or "UBD", which have the later tin plated type gasket.

While this is not a concern for Cadillac, the procedure in the Service Information Manual was written for the original design gasket. Therefore, please revise your Fleetwood Brougham Service Information Manual in the following way.

Revised Procedure

* On page 6A-3 (5.0L V-8 VIN Y) of the Fleetwood Brougham Service Manual revise the text under - Install or Connect - to read:

1. Apply 1050026 sealer or equivalent to both sides of the manifold gasket, as shown in Figure 6A-7.

2. Correct Figure 6A-7 on page 6A-4 for Item #7 to read -- Port areas on both sides of the intake gasket.

Another design change entered production during March, 1986. This aluminum clad gasket is not as susceptible to deterioration by coolant or galvanic action. When the change to the aluminum clad from the tin plated gasket entered production the engine Unit Identification three letter bar code tag affixed to the rocker cover was changed from the "UBD or UBH" to "UBS or UBT". Application of sealer to both sides of the gasket remains essential.

The change in procedure applies to both the tin plate and aluminum clad gaskets. Therefore, application of sealer to both sides of the gasket is required anytime any intake manifold gasket is replaced.

86 "D" 307 (VIN Y) . . . 22535437 . . . Gasket Kit . . . Qty 1 (Aluminum Clad Gasket)

The original gasket kit has been cancelled and if ordered will be superseded by part number 22534925.

When stock of part number 22534925 is depleted 22535437 will be supplied even if 22534925 is ordered.
