SUBJECT: CLARIFICATION OF 1-800-PACKARD SERVICES
Dealer Service Information Bulletin 89-I-26 outlined procedures for obtaining wiring connectors and components and provided wiring component parts lists for several recent vehicle lines. Some dealers may have experienced difficulties obtaining components from that bulletin because requests were addressed to 1-800-PACKARD as opposed to the process outlined in bulletin 89-I-26. This bulletin will clarify the services provided by 1-800-PACKARD.
The 1-800-PACKARD telephone hot line is operated by Pioneer Standard Electronics, Inc. (Pioneer). Pioneer is an independent company, not affiliated with General Motors Corporation. Pioneer is an authorized distributor of General Motors Packard Electric Division products.
Packard Electric Division (PED) is a subsidiary of General Motors and is most widely known for their manufacturing of wire, wire terminals, electrical connectors, and wire harness assemblies used in General Motors vehicles.
General Motors Corporation does not operate or exercise control of the 1-800-PACKARD hot line.
Pioneer is a recognized industry source for Packard Electric components. However, conditions such as minimum order values may apply. Additionally, Pioneer does not distribute all PED components nor are they obligated to provide technical or application information regarding PED components.
Use of the GM Service Parts Operations PARTECH and SPAC order processing assistance, as outlined in bulletin 89-I-26, will assure that all requests are handled promptly. Most small orders are shipped within 24 hours. Orders for components which may not be in stock will be processed as quickly as practical.
Orders processed through GMSPO provide the additional benefit of allowing Packard Electric to monitor service parts usage as an indication of need for regular service parts kits.
