Accelerator Pedal - Fluctuates With Cruise Control ON

SUBJECT: ACCELERATOR PEDAL FLUCTUATES WHILE CRUISE CONTROL IS ENGAGED

MODELS AFFECTED: 1986 FLEETWOOD BROUGHAM

On some 1986 Fleetwood Broughams the accelerator pedal may fluctuate while the cruise control is engaged yet the speed of the vehicle will remain constant. This condition may be caused by conductive grease in the bulkhead connector. To repair this condition, proceed as follows:

1. Disconnect negative battery cable.

2. Remove driver side hush panel.

3. Remove two fuse block retaining screws (7 mm), release retaining clips and position fuse block out of the way.

4. Remove bulkhead connector screw (7/32") from engine compartment side of bulkhead connector.

5. Disconnect right hand side of the bulkhead connector and pull away from bulkhead.

6. Cut and strip the tan wire, Circuit 398 and the LT. BLU/BLK wire, Circuit 399 on the passenger side of the bulkhead connector.

7. Splice and solder 18 inch long, 20 gauge jumper wires to Circuits 398 and 399.

8. Wrap splices in electrical tape and feed jumper wires through open cavities in the passenger compartment side of the bulkhead connector.

9. Clean excess grease from the corresponding cavities on the engine compartment side of the bulkhead connector. Feed jumper wires through the cleared cavities.

10. Cut and strip the tan wire, Circuit 398 and the LT. BLU/BLK wire, Circuit 399 on the engine compartment side of the bulkhead connector.

11. Splice and solder the jumper wires to Circuits 398 and 399.

12. Wrap splices in electrical tape.

13. Reconnect the right side of the bulkhead connector.

14. Install the bulkhead connector screw.

15. Install the fuse block and two retaining screws.

16. Install the hush panel.

17. Reconnect battery cable.
