Wheel Bearing: Adjustments
FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS ADJUSTMENTLooseness at a front wheel does not necessarily indicate worn bearings or a loose spindle nut, since the tapered roller bearings used on front wheels of all standard Cadillacs should not be preloaded and normally can have up to .004 inch endplay.
1. While rotating wheel and tire assembly, tighten spindle nut to 12 lb ft making certain that hub is fully seated on spindle.
2. Back off spindle nut until free, and tighten nut finger tight.
3. Install new cotter pin. If pin cannot be installed, back off nut to next hole and install pin. Cotter pin must be tight after installation, as vibration can break pin.
