SUBJECT: SAGGING HEADLINER REPAIR PROCEDURE
MODELS AFFECTED: 1986-1988 ELDORADOS AND SEVILLES 1985-1988 BROUGHAMS
Some Eldorados, Sevilles, and Broughams may exhibit a condition of a sagging headliner. This condition may be caused by the Velcro(R) pulling away from the headliner substrate, or the hook and loop Velcro(R) strips not staying together. To repair this condition use the following procedure:
1. Lower headliner and rest headliner on the front and rear seat back. (See headlining removal as outlined in the appropriate Body Service Manual.)
FIGURE 1 - BONDING HOOK MATERIAL TO ROOF BOWS:
2. Bond a 1" wide by 36" long strip of Velcro(R) hook material the full length of center and third roof bow using 3M 08046 top and trim adhesive, 08090 super trim adhesive, 08001 super weatherstrip adhesive, or equivalent. Refer to Figure 1.
3. Bond two 1" wide by 36" long strips of Velcro(R) loop material parallel to each other on the headliner backing, aligned with Velcro(R) on roof bows.
FIGURE 2 - BONDING LOOP MATERIAL ON HEADLINER BACKING:
NOTE: Bonding two Velcro(R) strips parallel on headliner backing will ease Velcro(R) hook-to-loop alignment, refer to Figure 2.
4. Allow bonding adhesive to completely cure before reinstalling headliner.
5. Install trim.
