Disassemble
As each valve train is removed, position individual valve train in order that it is removed and in a separate location relative to its position in the valve body. None of the valves, bushings or springs are interchangeable, some roll pins are interchangeable. Remove all roll pins and spring retaining sleeve by pushing through from the rough transmission case surface side of the control valve pump assembly, except for the blind hole roll pins.
1. Position control valve assembly machined side faced up with manual valve, at the top.
2. Remove three check ball and manual valve from upper bore. Some of the roll pins in the control valve assembly are under spring tension. Place a shop towel over roll pin bores while removing pins.
3. Remove roll pin from upper left bore.
4. Remove 2-3 throttle valve bushing, 2-3 throttle valve spring, 2-3 throttle valve and 2-3 shift valve. The 2-3 throttle valve spring and 2-3 throttle may be inside 2-3 throttle valve bushing.
5. Under upper left bore, remove roll pin. Remove converter clutch throttle bushing, converter clutch throttle valve spring, converter clutch throttle valve and converter clutch shift valve.
6. Under bore mentioned in step 5, remove outer roll pin. Remove 1-2 throttle valve bushing, 1-2 throttle valve spring, 1-2 throttle valve and Lo first detent valve.
7. Under bore mentioned in step 6, remove outer spring retaining sleeve. This spring is under heavy tension. Cover open end of bore to prevent loss of spring.
8. Remove bore plug, 4-3 control valve, 4-3 valve spring and inner spring retaining sleeve.
9. Remove Lo/overrun clutch valve spring and Lo/overrun clutch valve.
10. Under bore mentioned in step 7, remove roll pin, 3-4 throttle valve spring, 3-4 throttle valve and 3-4 shift valve.
11. Under bore mentioned in step 10, remove roll pin, bore plug, accumulator valve and spring.
12. From upper right bore, remove roll pin, valve bore plug, line bias valve and line bias valve spring.
13. Under bore mentioned in step 12, remove roll pin, 3-2 control valve spring and 3-2 control valve.
14. Under bore mentioned in step 13, remove roll pin, valve bore plug, T.V. modulator upshift valve and T.V. modulator upshift valve spring.
15. Under bore mentioned in step 14, remove roll pin, valve bore plug, T.V. modulator downshift valve and T.V. modulator downshift valve spring.
16. Under bore mentioned in step 15, remove spring retaining sleeve, T.V. limit valve spring and T.V. limit valve. Spring retaining sleeve is under tension. Cover open end of bore to prevent loss of spring.
17. Under bore mentioned in step 16, remove outer roll pin, throttle valve plunger bushing, throttle valve plunger and throttle valve spring. Remove inner roll pin as follows:
a. Using a No.49 drill bit, grind a taper to one end of drill bit
b. Lightly tap tapered end of drill bit into roll pin and remove drill bit and roll pin.
c. Remove throttle valve.
