Intermediate Servo Piston Assembly

1. Check pin oil seal rings, for damage.

2. Check pin for damage and proper fit in transmission case bore.

3. Check inner, outer seal rings and spring for damage. Do not remove seal rings unless replacement is required.

4. Check for proper intermediate band apply pin as follows:

a. Install tool No. J25014-2 or equivalent, into intermediate servo bore and secure with snap ring. Ensure gap on snap ring aligns with slot on transmission.

b. Install pin No. J25014-1 or equivalent onto tool No. J25014-2. Ensure tapered pin end is properly seated against band apply lug. Ensure band anchor pin is properly seated in transmission case and band anchor lug.

c. Position a dial indicator onto top portion of tool No. J25014-2 and set dial indicator to zero.

d. Align stepped pin on tool No. J25014-1 with torque arm on tool No. J25014-2. If band selection pin does not register between high and low limits, check for possible problem with intermediate band, direct clutch housing or transmission case. Ensure tool No. J25014-1 is seated completely against intermediate servo cover snap ring.

e. Using a torque wrench, apply 100 inch lbs. (12 Nm) torque to hex nut on side of gauge and slide dial indicator over pin tool No. J25014-1. Check dial indicator reading and refer to chart. Dial indicator travel is reversed, making the readings backward. On an indicator which ranges from 0-100, a 0.020 inch 0.5 mm) travel will read 0.080 inch 2mm) ,a 0.060 inch (1.5 mm) travel will read 0.040 inch (1 mm). The identification groove is located on band end of pin.

f. Remove snap ring and band apply gauges.

5. Install retainer onto band apply pin.

6. Install snap ring onto band apply pin.

7. Install band apply pin, retainer end first through intermediate servo pistons.

8. Lubricate and install intermediate servo piston inner and outer seal rings.

9. Lubricate and install seal ring onto intermediate servo cover. The intermediate servo cover seal must be well lubricated to prevent damage of ring.

10. Install intermediate servo piston into intermediate servo cover. Ensure tapered end of band apply pin is properly seated against band apply lug.

11. Install servo cover snap ring. Align snap ring gap with slot in transmission case. Ensure tapered end of band apply pin is properly seated
against band apply lug or damage to transmission will occur.

12. Lubricate and install O-ring onto transmission case electrical connector and install connector into transmission case.
