SIL 87-31 (Oct)

SUBJECT:
THM 200C & THM 200 4R NEW TRANSMISSION OIL PAN GASKET

A new latex-coated cellulose (hard fiber material) pan gasket entered production on the dates listed below. The new gaskets improve sealing capability by better withstand fastener torques.

Date of Production Change: (See Illustrations)

THM 200 C: May 29, 1986, Julian Date 149
THM 200 4R: June 33, 1986, Julian Date 174

Any model year THM 200 C and 200 4R transmission with a continuous raised rib pan can be serviced with the new cellulose gaskets. When servicing a THM 200 C, or THM 200 4R which has the former flat surface pan, use the early type gasket.

Some service overhaul packages may contain a latex-coated cork (soft material) gasket,. which should not be used with a raised rib pan. The new hard fiber material gasket can be ordered separately, using the appropriate part number, as listed below.

When replacing the oil pan gasket, it is critical that a torque wench is used to tighten the hex head pin screws. Hand torque all THM 200 4R hex head screws 8-14 N.m (6-10 lb. ft.) and all THM 200 C hex head screws 10-16 N.m. (7-12 lb. ft.). This is a new torque specification for the oil pan bolts on the THM 200 C.
