System Check

1. Follow the systems check to verify the complaint and to see if system is operating properly.

2. When repairs are complete, redo the systems check to verify repair and proper operation.

3. Before performing any diagnostic tests, check that the following components are working properly:
^ Parking lights
^ Low beam headlights
^ Dome and courtesy lights
^ Wipers
^ Clocks
^ Electric door lights
^ Automatic door locks


NOTE: To reduce alarm noise, muffle the vehicle horns with rags. Put all windows fully down before testing. Verify that the power door lock system is operating properly before continuing.



SYSTEM CHECK

ARMING

1. Turn the ignition switch to OFF. Open the drivers door.
^ SECURITY SYSTEM indicator flashes.

2. With the driver's door open, move the door lock switch to LOCK.
^ SECURITY SYSTEM indicator stays on.

3. Sit in the passenger seat and close all doors. (do not sit in the driver's seat.)
^ SECURITY SYSTEM indicator stays on for three seconds and then goes out. System is now armed.

TEST ALARMS

1. Unlock any door using the inside lock release and open the door or sit in the drivers seat.
^ Horns and lights pulse on and off. Pulsing will continue for three to seven minutes.
2. While alarms are operating, turn the ignition switch to START.
^ Starter does not operate.

DISARMING

1. Using the vehicle key, unlock one of the doors.
^ Alarms stop.

2. Rearm the system but leave the car before closing the last door. Unlock and open one of the doors using the vehicle key.
^ No alarms sound. (The key unlock disarms the system.)

CANCELLING ARMING SEQUENCE

1. Complete the first three steps in the arming sequence.

2. Before closing doors, move the door lock switch to the unlock position.
^ SECURITY indicator begins flashing again. System is not armed.

DISARMING THE SYSTEM

Once the system is armed, it can be disarmed only by using the key. From outside the car the system can be disarmed by unlocking either door with the vehicle key. From inside the car the system can be disabled by turning the ignition switch to RUN, BULB TEST, or START without sitting in the drivers seat.

LOCKING VEHICLE WITHOUT ARMING

The system is not armed if the doors are closed before the door lock switch is moved to LOCK or if the doors are locked manually from the inside, or with the vehicle key.
