Starter Interrupt Relay Test







STARTER INTERRUPT RELAY TEST

Starter Interrupt Relay Test - Part 1 Of 2:




1. Remove the connector from the starter interrupt relay and measure the voltage to ground at each terminal of the connector.
^ If all voltages are correct, proceed to step 2.
^ If voltage is present at terminal 1 or 2, check the YEL(5) or DK BLU(206) wires for wire to wire short in the harness.
^ If YEL(5) wire is good and voltage is present, diagnose the starter system.
^ If DK GRN(206) wire is good and voltage is present, replace theft deterrent controller.
^ If voltage at terminal 3 is incorrect, check YEL(5) wire at terminal 3 for an open. If wire is good, check operation of ignition switch.
^ If voltage at terminal 5 is incorrect, check the PNK(3) for an open.



2. Connect a fused jumper between terminal 1 and 3 of the starter interrupt relay connector. Check that engine will crank with jumper connected.
^ If engine cranks, go to step 3.
^ If engine does not crank, diagnose starting and charging system.

3. Reconnect the starter interrupt relay. Remove the connector from the theft deterrent controller and measure the voltage to ground at terminal E of the connector.
^ If voltage is correct, go to step 4.
^ If battery voltage is not present, check the DK GRN(206) for an open or short to ground. If wire is good, replace the starter interrupt relay.

4. Turn ignition switch to START and check that engine cranks.
^ If engine cranks, go to step 5.
^ If engine does not crank, replace the starter interrupt relay.

5. Connect a fused jumped between terminal E of the theft deterrent controller and ground. Turn ignition to START.
^ If engine cranks, replace starter interrupt relay.
^ If engine does not crank with the jumper in place but will crank when theft deterrent system is in alarm state, replace the theft deterrent controller.
