Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.

Condition, Dealer Action and Vehicles Involved

General Motors has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in all 1986 and some early 1987 Sevilles and Eldorados. With the Twilight Sentinel switch turned ON, conditions may occur within the contacts of the thumbwheel control which could potentially result in an intermittent headlight circuit. An intermittent circuit could cause the headlights to suddenly go out. Sudden loss of the headlights under severe weather or nighttime driving conditions could reduce driver visibility which might result in a vehicle crash without prior warning.

NOTE: THE MANUAL HEADLIGHT SWITCH (BUTTON) WILL TURN THE HEADLIGHTS ON.

DEALER ACTION

To prevent this condition from occurring, dealers are required to replace the E-PROM in the Body Control Module (BCM) on suspect vehicles per the Vehicles Involved and Service Procedure sections of this bulletin.
