Refrigeration System
FUNCTIONThe sole function of the refrigeration system is to maintain the evaporator core temperature when refrigeration is selected. The major components, interconnected by hoses and tubing, that accomplish this are the compressor, the condenser, the expansion tube (orifice), the evaporator core, and the accumulator.
"LOW A/C REFRIGERANT" MESSAGE
In the process of controlling the compressor clutch, the Body Control Module (BCM) monitors certain system inputs for an indication of low refrigerant charge. If the system's refrigerant state of charge should fall below approximately one third its capacity, the BCM is capable of detecting this condition and will display "Low A/C Refrigerant" on the driver information center to warn the operator.
In addition to this display, the BCM will store a diagnostic trouble code in memory and the compressor clutch is shut off until the low refrigerant condition, or the trouble code, is cleared.
