SUBJECT: FRONT SEATBACK COVER WEAR
MODELS AFFECTED: 1986 ELDORADOS AND SEVILLES
Front Seat:
This bulletin supersedes Serviceman Bulletin T-87-63 which should be destroyed. Please note the change in warranty information at the end of this bulletin.
Some 1986 Eldorados and Sevilles may experience wear on the front seatback outer side facing. This condition is caused by the outer edge of the seatback frame flange contacting the inner surface of the cover side facing during driver and/or passenger entry of the front seating area.
To repair this condition, proceed as follows:
1. Disengage cover and pull seatback cover (12") up the seatback (Figure 1).
2. Remove 2" x 5-1/2" x 1/16" nylon patch from outer foam surface (if installed), (Figure 1).
3. Separate the foam bun material from the outer edge of the seatback frame. This separation should run from the bottom of the back frame upward approximately 10" and inward 3" (Figure 2).
4. Reposition previously removed nylon patch to seatback frame outer surface under the foam bun as shown in Figure 3. If patch was not installed (Step 2), obtain a piece of 1/16" thick pliable nylon and fabricate a 2" x 5-1/2" patch. Install patch and foam using 3M Super Trim Adhesive 08090 or equivalent (Figure 4).
5. Reinstall seatback cover.
If the seatback outer side facing is badly damaged it must be replaced as well as the adjacent front panel.
For warranty purposes, use Labor Operation Number T6186 (driver side) or T6188 (passenger side) at 1.3 hours per seatback for steps 1 through 5. ADD: 2.0 hours for driver or passenger seatback trim replacement.
